DESIGN
Inspired by Manica armour from the Roman Period, and a few articulated suits of Medieval Armour.
These forearm guards or Vambraces were designed to be low-profile, lighter, and more flexible than existing guards, which I found to be bulky and restrictive, especially when using larger gloves. Each section is angled outwards, so thrusts along the arm are prevented from slipping under the plates.
The guards wrap around the arm and are held in place by a strap that can be moved to any segment. Additional fixing holes at the top and bottom of each segment to allow them to be tied to the jacket.
The overlap and ribbing offer further rigidity while allowing movement in all directions. The integral pivot means no additional fixings are required, but could be drilled for Chicago screws if preferred. The guards are supplied unconnected and snap together.
SIZING
The segments are conical in shape, with opening circumferences between 17cm – 40cm. Measure over your jacket above the wrist and below the elbow to find your range. This allows the vambraces to be sized appropriately, requiring 3 or 4 segments for each forearm. They are packaged into standard sizes:
SIZE Segments Opening Circumference
XS 1-6 7-29cm
S 3-8 20-32cm
M 6-11 24-36cm
L/XL 9-14 29-40cm
Please email if additional sizes are required.
