DESIGN
Inspired by Roman Manica and Medieval armour, and reconfigured to suit modern 3D printing techniques. These guards are low-profile, lighter, and more flexible and are designed to be worn under fencing jackets, rather than on top, partly to reduce the noise and bulk of traditional HEMA guards. The design is modular to provide the best fit and be easy to fix and replace at a low cost.
Each section is appropriately angled so thrusts are prevented from slipping under the plates. The guards wrap around the arm and are held in place by as many straps as desired. Additional holes at the top and bottom of each segment to allow them to be tied together with a bungee cord and adjusted to provide just the right amount of stiffness and movement.
The overlap and ribbing offer further rigidity while allowing movement in all directions. The integral pivot means no additional fixings are required.
NB: The plastron in the pictures is not part of the set, but fits very nicely and can be purchased here
SIZING
1. Elbow, Shoulder, Knee - measure the circumference while wearing the correct clothes, then select the corresponding number of the Joint Section using Table 1 below
2. Lower Legs and Forearms - select the corresponding numbers below the Joint Section
3. Thigh and Upper Arms - select the corresponding numbers above the Joint Section
4. Add sections to get the desired length and fit
5. Add 4 clips per limb, or more if preferred
6. Slice and print! The files are pre-orientated for the best result. Only the joint section needs support.
7. Use 20mm one-sided hook and loop for the straps: Here
